What do you do?

I am a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach and I also have my GGS Pre & Postnatal Coaching certification. MPowHer Fit’s mission is to help women discover their true power and potential through fitness, nutrition, and wellness. I specialize in working with moms and women recovering from trauma, but work with all humans. I welcome clients into my home gym, or they can work with me remotely through an app on their phone with weekly check-in calls.

What inspired you to start your business?

I haven't had an easy life. When I was younger, I went through some traumatic events. Then when I was 19 years old, I found out I had cancer, and no family to offer me support. Fast forward several years and I lost my job at the beginning of the pandemic. The opportunity arose to find another job or to start my own business. I've had the dream of starting my business and helping women for almost a decade, so the decision was an easy one for me to make—MPowHer Fit was born!

What's special about your business?

It is based on the notions of mental health, self-love, and optimal wellness and each client receives a personalized program.

What have been the high and low points of being a business owner?

The high point would be when I won a grant for new fitness equipment and a brand remodel through Women's Venture with the help of SCORE.

The low point would be after only two months of starting my business, I went on a roller coaster ride of finding out I was pregnant while we were physically moving. New baby, new business, and new home—it was a lot to handle.

What is your relationship with SCORE? SCORE client What influenced you to seek help from SCORE?

I was ready to grow my business to the next level. Without guidance from SCORE and my mentor, I wouldn’t have been able to do it financially for many years, which would've been a huge disservice to my clients.

How SCORE helped.

SCORE offered me the knowledge, know-how, and encouragement to propose my business plan for the future version of MPowHer Fit to Women’s Venture. SCORE really helped me go after what I wanted and achieve my goals.

What's great about my mentor?

Michael Tsakistos is very straightforward, concise, and encouraging. He has the business knowledge that I was lacking and is willing to pass that know-how along to whoever needs it.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting a small business?

I would encourage them to tap into available resources, whether that is a friend, someone from SCORE, or online resources. Just don't get stuck in your head. Challenge yourself. Ask yourself, what would I do if fear didn’t exist? Go do that thing.

What would you tell a fellow business owner about SCORE?

I actually encouraged a friend of mine to reach out to the SCORE chapter in Seattle because of my positive experience working with them.

What have you learned from your experiences as a business owner?

Every client teaches me something different. I get to challenge myself and grow with each one.

Michael Tsakastios and another mentor have helped me with the business side of things.
